Can you get into a college that requires a high school cumulative gpa 2.5 and you have a 2.1 and a 22 act test score specifically kent state university

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

All exceptions are going to follow the policies of that school. You would need to talk to them, and perhaps see if you can get someone to advocate for you. That would usually mean getting someone in your goal department interested in you, which means being interested in them first and getting to know them.

awesome!!! you gave me the perfect idea thank you so much

OpenStudy (abb0t):

As far as I know, State Universities are more lenient on their acceptances of students with a slightly lower minimum gpa requirement. There are a few things to consider here 1. Major of interest - obviously, if you are applying to a school to study a less demanding major such as say, english, art, or history, the gpa requirement may be higher. But, if you're applying as a mathematics or science major, they might be more lenient. 2. Reputation - this means, what is your school of interest known for? For example, if you're interested in applying to a school that is well known for their engineering program, it might be difficult to get into their program with a lower gpa. Since it's "well known" their program may either be impacted (meaning full), or make decisions more rigorously in comparison to a program they're not so well known for. 3. Extra curricular activities - if you're active in extra curricular activities that may demand a lot of your time, such as sports or a national program, they will take that into consideration. Just as long as they see you're able to manage your time.

I think Abb0t has brought out some very good and specific points there. I hinted at it when I said the exceptions a school does make will be ones that follow their policies. This means that talking to the school and the specific department will be critical. Now, lets say they say, "No!" and you still really want to go there. Plan B: Get your behind in gear, word hard, find out what has kept you from doing well, and work on it. Then get into a community college that does feeding to the school you want to go to. Do anything and everything to get the best GPA you can. This will erase your high school record because you can transfer on the community college record.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

You also still have the option to appeal the college decision. However, you'd have to present new information for them to even consider your appeal. Maybe you re-took the SAT/ACT again and got a higher score, or you received an honorable award, or you increased your smartscore on OpenStudy. Those are just a few examples of some of the information you might want to bring up in your appeal. Don't even bother if you're bringing up stupid issues like "uh, but my friend got in with same score as me". Or "please take a second look at my stuff...."

Thank you so much for the advice! i have non stop been thinking about what i could do to be accepted into Kent State University to study air traffic controll. I am a senior this year and i am just starting my 2nd semester. I have a 2.00 cumulative gpa and i am working twice as hard this semester and spending way more time into my work to bring my grades up. I have had many distractions like girlfriends and friends. I work a lot and like to party sometimes. But i am cutting myself off this semester and i am aiming for a 3.0 my senior year. How would this bring up my cumulative? would it be around 2.1 or 2.2? and i have the act test coming up and i am studying hard for it. any advice on that? kent state requires a 2.5 gpa and a 22 on the act. thanks again i appreciate the advice!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

GPA is an average, but it depends on total units at what GPA. Lets say you had four classes: English, 3 units, 2.0 Math, 4 units, 2.5 Science, 3 untis, 3.3 Gym, 3 units, 4.0 The attempted units is the units in all classes: 3+4+3+3=13 The GP received then becomes: 3*2+4*2.5+3*3.3+3*4=37.9 The average, or GPA, is 37.9/13 = 2.92 You need to look at what you have so far and see how it could be changed. Also check with your school if there is anything that can be done to erase some prior mistakes. As a senior, it might be hard because you generally need to repeat a class say in the summer to do that. But there may be some options. Have a talk with your school counselor. Explain that your past immaturity has cost you and you understand it is your fault. However, you finally have a goal and you want to know if there is any way to deal with that past so the goal is more in your reach. Put it forward as looking for help with addressing consequences of past issues. Be nice about it.
