Which of the following is a pure substance? Choose all that apply. Fruit juice? nickel? saltwater? rust? (Fe2O3)

@Isaiah.Feynman

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Pure...what does that mean to you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most likely a liquid or gas? @Isaiah.Feynman

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

No. If something is made of only one type of substance then its pure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So saltwater would be one, right? @Isaiah.Feynman

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Salt + water. Two different things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, well I am not sure about nickel or rust, but I am pretty sure fruit juice isn't one either then. @Isaiah.Feynman

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

Rust is iron + oxygen. Nickel is the pure substance there. Look at the definition I gave!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think nickel is the only one then? @Isaiah.Feynman

OpenStudy (isaiah.feynman):

I just said that. Yes.
