The table shows the number of heartbeats per minute that a person with family history of heart disease should not exceed during exercise. What is the maximum heart rate for a 68 year old? Age heartbeats per minute: 20, 32,44,56,150,142,134,126 a. 115 beats per min b. 118 beats per min c. 120 beats per min d. 116 beats per min
so is that table supposed to be 20 150 32 142 44 134 56 126 ?
i dont think so, my teacher wrote it like i did above
that's not a table, that's a list. obviously, the first 4 numbers are ages, the last 4 numbers are the corresponding maximum heart rates for those ages. maximum heart rate declines with age. the table doesn't go to age 68, however. you need to extrapolate from the data you have. do you see a pattern in the table?
alternatively, you could graph the table values: (20,150), (32,142), (44,134), (56,126) run a straight line through them, and find the value where x = 68
ok
sorry, but what do you mean by running a straight line through them?
if you've correctly plotted those points, you should be able to plunk your ruler down and draw a straight line going through all of those points
but before you go to all of that trouble, look at the data. how many years apart is one data point from the next? and how does the maximum heart rate change from one point to the next? are the changes always the same?
oh ok
i got 118 beats per minute (b)
yes, that's correct!
