Pope Urban II - He wanted a Crusade to retake the Holy Land from who he saw as the infidels Peter the Hermit - He thought it was a mission for everyone to take the Holy Land and many poor flocked to support him in the "People's Crusade". They didn't do very well as a mob army. William of Tyre - He chronicled life in Jerusalem under the control of the Christian crusaders. Saladin - He felt it was his role to defend the Holy Land from the invaders and unite the Middle East. Richard the Lionheart - He promised to retake Jerusalem, but ended up in only being able to hold onto the Crusader cities along the coast and proved to be an able opponent of Saladin.
