There are 50 workers' hours available for finishing/staining of cabinetry each week. The total number of workers' hours available per week for smoothing/sanding on cabinetry is 80 hours. There are two types of homes being built, Willow Way homes and Colbert Lane homes. Willow Way homes require 2 1/2 hours of finishing/staining and 3 hours of smoothing/sanding. Colbert Lane homes require 1 hour of finishing/staining and 1 1/2 hours of smoothing/sanding. If w represents the number of Willow Way homes and c represents the number of Colbert Lane homes, write the system of inequalities to represent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. 2.5w + 3c ≤ 50 1w + 1.5c ≤ 80 B. 3w + 1.5c ≤ 50 2.5w + 1c ≤ 80 C. 2.5w + 1c ≤ 50 3w + 1.5c ≤ 80 D. 2.5c + 1w ≤ 50 3c + 1.5w ≤ 80

those are the answers and im so confused every time i read can someone help me please

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

let's just do the finishing/staining part first. 50 hours available. willow way requires 2.5 hrs of finishing/staining per house, and Colbert requires 1 hour. if w = # of willow way houses and c = # of colbert lane houses, the time spent in a week working on finishing/staining is 2.5*w + 1*c, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

for smoothing and sanding, willow way takes 3 hours and colbert lane takes 1.5 hours (per house), and there are a total of 80 hours available. hours a week spend smoothing and sanding is 3*w + 1.5*c right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yup

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

so, we need a set of inequalities that says the first expression (for finishing/staining) uses no more than 50 hours, and the second expression uses no more than 80 hours.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

which answer choice is that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that correct or no

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

looks like it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you and a medal for you my friend

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

wasn't really that hard when we worked through it, was it?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

trick is just to keep your eyes from glazing over as you read the answer choices :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it was just confusing i kept reading it over and over again and it just would not process through my mind lol

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

we actually knew the answer after the first thing we did, if we'd stopped to consider the answer choices at that point. but I prefer to be able to find the answer entirely by myself. real life often isn't multiple choice :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya really the only reason i have multiple choice is cause im in homeschooling and these were practice questions and i got so confused and stuck
