What is the solution of the equation? square root of 2x+4 - square root of x=2 A. x = 0 and x = -16 B. x = 0 and x = 16 C. x = 0 D. x = 16 and x = -16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know exactly how I should solve this problem..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nether do i thats a head scracher

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah no kidding

OpenStudy (bibby):

start by writing out the equation. then add sqrt(x) to both sides and square both sides to get rid of the sqrt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok can you show me cause i don't do well with just explanations i do better with images

OpenStudy (bibby):

yeah, I'll do the first few steps . is this any clearer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (bibby):

Do you need any further "hints"/nudging? STart by expanding (2+sqrt(x))^2 (2+sqrt(x)) * (2+sqrt(x))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one more hint and I think I'll be able to figure it out...

OpenStudy (bibby):

k. foil it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THANKS :D

OpenStudy (bibby):

Looks like B (I think)

OpenStudy (anonymous):
