Medal and fan to who ever can explain!!! The height of the pyramid in the diagram is three times the radius of the cone. The base area of the pyramid is the same as the base area of the cone. What is the expression for the volume of the pyramid in terms of the radius r of the cone?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

V=1/3 pi r^2 V=pi r^3 v=2 pi r^2 v= 1/9 pi r^3 v=3 pi r^3 I think its the 1st one

The height is 3 times so im confused. help!!!

OpenStudy (***[isuru]***):

ok! the volume of the pyramid is... area of the base x height x 1/3 height =3 r also area of the base of the pyramid = area of the base of the cone = pi r^2 so... the volume is pi r^2 x 3r x 1/3 = pir^3

OpenStudy (***[isuru]***):

got it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

v=3 pi r^3 yes?

OpenStudy (***[isuru]***):

nope v= pi r^3... 3 will cancel out when 3 multiplied by 1/3

Thank you!!!

u r welcome!
