Which Susbstance is probably an unstable intermediate? a)CO b)NO2 c)NO3 d)NO Can anyone explain to me why is it NO3? is it because it requires an extra mechanism?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Are you SURE the answer is NO\(_3\)?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Also, are you using this to describe a reaction mechanism?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Is there more information?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh ya sorry they linked it back to the question on previous page Equation: NO2+CO>NO+CO2 NO2+NO2>NO3+NO (fast) NO3+CO>NO2+CO2 (slow) thats the mechanism also why is the rate law r=[NO2]^2[CO]? is it because 2 NO is required to make NO2>CO2?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

This is a two step reaction. Which means that the first step is slow.
