five medal question??? Discuss whether or not human activities lead to speciation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That is very opinionated. . . What I'd say: Allopatric speciation - This can be the result of population dispersal leading to emigration, or by ... island formation, or large scale human activities (for example agricultural and civil engineering ... ranges are entirely separate such that they do not occur in any one place together. .... It is controversial whether its specific status can now be retained. One sec. . . I'll gather more info

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't have data or evidence to support this idea, but I think it is entirely probable that our activity increases the rate of speciation. In particular: ... We fragment habitats into widely separated "islands" of habitat. If the populations in those areas can no longer travel between the separated areas, then they may accumulate differences and become different species. ... We alter the environment to the point that the alteration may speed up genetic drift as the population adapts to the changed conditions. If other populations of the species are not subjected to the same changes, then speciation may occur.

Does that help @clara.university ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i can assume what speciation is but if its a bad thing then yes :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well speciation is the formation of new species

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do humans have to do anything with the formation of new animals?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

technically yes. All animals are evolving ant turning into new species. Micro evolving if you will.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

btu yeah i think I just figured it out ill just write anything

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and lol do u have google hangouts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

never heard of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok but if u want to use it i sent u an invitation its just an email thing
