how do i find this? Balance the following equation ___ Mg + ____ HCl --> ____ MgCl2 + ____ H2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi would u like me to solve it or go about on how to solve it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how to solve it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well u have to balance the coefficients of each element. So the best way is to write how much of each element is on each side of the equilibrium arrow. Then it is a trial and error to match the same amount of elements for each side of the equation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u solve it im still lost

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so on the left handed side there is 1 Mg, 1 H and 1 Cl. The right side has 1 Mg 2 Cl and 2 H. To balance this, u need the Cl and H to have 2 on the left side. It just so happens that HCl is hydrochloric acid and are together. Therefore, if u put coefficient 2 for HCl, u get 2 H 2 Cl and everything else is 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so ur equation looks like 1 Mg + 2 HCl yields 1 MgCl2 + 1 H2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u c that the elements are now equal?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i see it.how bour something like this___ CaCl2 + ____ Na3PO4 --> ___ Ca3(PO4)2 + ___ NaCl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same concept applies just more variables

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for this u can treat po4 as 1 element to make things easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its 3 +2 1+6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes! that is right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as u do more problems u can see patterns and to which element u need to start with and it makes the trial and error process a lot easier

OpenStudy (anonymous):

n this one ___ Na2CO3 + __HCl --> __ CO2 + ___ H2O + ___ NaCl 2+2 1+1+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

___ BaCl2 + ___ Na2SO4 --> ___ BaSO4 + ___ NaCl 1, 2, 1, 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh for the na2co3 i got 1+2 yeilds 1+1+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what abour the BaCl

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhhh i got 1+1 yields 1+2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u seem to get some of it right but adding 2 times for some of the coefficients for some reason

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i see that .i need more practice but thanks for alll your help
