Please help im in the middle of a test!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

What sort of help do you have in mind? Remember, a helper may help you solve a problem similar to a test problem, but not the test problem itself.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'm OK with giving you a general approach: Separate the problem into 2 parts. Find the area of the larger square (separately). Find the area of the smaller square (separately). Add the two areas together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And that gives me my answer? @mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Yes, it's that simple. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I followed your instructions and added them both up correctly, But its not one of the A B C choices @mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Look carefully at the diagram. Identify the length and the width of the larger square. Type them here. Then do the same thing for the smaller square.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Bigger = 180 Perimiter, 45 is the length and width Smaller = 120 Perimiter, 30 is the length and width

OpenStudy (mathmale):

That helps me to see what's happening. You're looking for perimeter, whereas the text question asks you for the total AREA of the figure given. So, what do you have to do differently next time thru?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add the 75 to both squares..?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@Questioner1 : I did not abandon you, despite appearances. OpenStudy is apparently being used very heavily right now, and so my latest post to you apparently never reached you.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Forget about that 75. It's not "wrong," but I think it was added to this diagram to confuse you. Just find the areas of the 2 squares and add them together.

Be certain to convert your answers, as necessary, to the correct units of measurement.
