ANSWER THIS QUESTION U GET A PRETTY MEDAL: what does patronymic really mean?!? (in kid words..)

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

A patronymic name is based on the fathers name. A word part meaning son or daughter of is added to the father's name to make a new surname. In English, Smithson, Williamson are examples. In Scottish, MacDonald, McKenzie Irish O'Toole, O'brian, Fitzwilliam, Fitzsimmons Russian Davidovich, Petrovich Scandinavian countries and -sen used to change every generation. So Olaf Hansen would name his son Peter Olafsen, Peter would name his son Gunder Petersen who might name his daughter Hilda Gunderdotter.
