What is kinetic friction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kinetic friction is the resisting force that occurs when two objects, surfaces or materials are rubbing against one another (eg. a car's tires against the concrete pavement, or the bottom of a sled on a sheet of snow).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It opposes the kinetic energy; while kinetic energy allows the object to move forward, kinetic friction will try to prevent it from moving, or slow the object down.

While we are at it, you must know tehre is something called as static friction.. and if you guessed, that, that is the friction at rest, then you are right.. But do you know the major difference between kinetic friction and static friction (besides the fact that one is for motion and the other for rest) ? @maris
