A car advertisement claims their car can go from a stopped position to 60 miles per hour in 5 seconds. The advertisement is describing the car's acceleration. speed. velocity. direction.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

None of those - they are describing a change of velocity with time - this is an acceleration

OpenStudy (mrnood):

To be precise - they are describing the change of speed with time. But once it has achieved this speed it has a direction, so the 60mph in now a velocity, and hence the advertisement describes an acceleration.

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

60 to 0 in 5 seconds means a change in velocity over a change in time, which is the definition of acceleration

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@nincompoop It isn't 60-0 it says its from a stopped position to 60mph in five seconds. so it would be 0-60

OpenStudy (mrnood):

either way - it's still acceleration - just the direction changes. The Q says 0-60 though

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@katrynakay Did you edit the question? Or did I misread it? I didn't notice the 'acceleration' option when I first read your question. (otherwise I wouldn't have given such a direct answer!)
