how to calculate weight of a: 5kg mass
weight is just the force exerted on an object due to gravity. Since your mass is given in kg, the common convention would be to use 9.81m/s^2 as the acceleration due to gravity at the surface of the earth. F = m * g where g is the acceleration due to gravity and F is the weight force F = 5kg * 9.81 m/s^2
= 49.05 Newtons
thank you, but I don't understand where 9.81 comes from?
F = mg
could you please elaborate?
At different points on Earth, objects fall with an acceleration between 9.78 and 9.82 m/s2 depending on altitude, with a conventional standard value of exactly 9.80665 m/s2 (wikipedia) essentially there are lots of scientists who have looked at how things fall and how they accelerate, and they have calculated things to accelerate at 9.80665... or about 9.81 m/s^2 since force = mass * acceleration, you take this acceleration due to gravity and multiply it by mass to find the force due to gravity AKA weight. lemme know if youre still confused about anything
I completely understand, thank you so much.
