Write an equation of a line that is parallel to x+3y=12 and that contains no points in Quadrant 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well to start, if a line is parallel to another it has the same slope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes so I put the equation into slope intercept form which would be y= -1/3x+4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The slope is -1/3 correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so your new equation is going to have the same slope , -1/3, but a different y intercept that isn't in quadrant one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would the y-intercept be a negative..?
