help would be nice

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

Use the following excerpt taken from an abolition speech delivered by William Wilberforce to answer the question below: "Having now disposed of the first part of this subject, I must speak of the transit of the slaves in the West Indies. This I confess, in my own opinion, is the most wretched part of the whole subject. So much misery condensed in so little room, is more than the human imagination had ever before conceived ... Let any one imagine to himself 6 or 700 of these wretches chained two and two, surrounded with every object that is nauseous and disgusting, diseased, and struggling under every kind of wretchedness! How can we bear to think of such a scene as this?" -William Wilberforce's, 1789 Abolition Speech Based on the above excerpt, why did Wilberforce think that slavery should be abolished? Slavery does not provide enough profit for the amount of suffering it causes. Slavery causes the spread of disease, which could affect Europeans as well as Africans No person should be submitted to the immense suffering that is perpetrated through slavery. People who are submitted to the suffering caused by slavery might rebel against Europeans.

Please read through the four possible answers. Eliminate, as best you can, those that make the least sense (e. g., those that are not supported by the reading passage). Then read the remaining choices. Tell me, please, in your own words, which one of those seems to reflect the reading passage best?

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

is it c

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I know you're probably anxious to finish this question and move on to the next one, but I did ask you to do several things towards finding the answer yourself. Have you done those things?

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

ok I think it is c be cause he talks about how bad the life of a slave is and c tells you how bad life as a slave is

OpenStudy (mathmale):

that's a much better response. So, you've decided that c is a better answer than d, and that we discard/omit choices a and b?

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

yes

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Is the passage more sympathetic to the viewpoint of the slave or to the viewpoints of European slave dealers? (Which?)

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

it is nicer to the slaves

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Not "nicer," but definitely sympathetic to the plight of the slaves. Yes, c is the best choice. Thank you for thinking this through and for sharing your reasoning.

OpenStudy (igreen):

@ARMYRANGERS Did you get this right..? XD

OpenStudy (armyrangers):

I don't remember lol

OpenStudy (igreen):

Lol, can you check back? Or did you finish the course?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, this was correct; for anyone else needing it :P
