SO4 = atomic mass = 96 g Sulfur = 32 g/mol *1 = 32g Oxygen = 16 g/mol * 4 = 64g 118 g - 96 g = 22 grams remaining mass The sulphate ion has a -2 charge, so the only metal with a +2 charge and has a mass of about 24 g is magnesium >> Mg+2 So that means M2 = magnesium...even though the molar mass of magnesium sulphate = 120 g/mol But no other metal is close to the 118g you have, so if it isn't magnesium I have no idea
