Is the line through points P(-7, 2) and Q(7, -6) parallel to the line through points R(-1, -5) and S(-3, -1)? Explain. No; one line has zero slope, the other has no slope. Yes; the lines are both vertical. Yes; the lines have equal slopes. No; the lines have unequal slopes.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

use the slope formula and compare their slopes ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know the slope formula.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it should be in your class material ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[slope=\frac{y_o-y_1}{x_0-x_1}\]

OpenStudy (amistre64):

in other words, subtract one point from the other and stack y/x

OpenStudy (amistre64):

so what is R-S ?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

opps, i did x/y :) P(-7, 2) - Q(7, -6) --------- -14, 8; slope is -8/14 reduce as wanted

OpenStudy (anonymous):

R-S = 4, -2; slope is -2/4?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lets check :) R(-1, -5) - S(-3, -1) ---------- 2, -4 slope is -4/2 but that was a good attempt

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since -8/14 is in no way equal to -4/2 id have to say they aint parallel

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it's D?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

D is good for me yes
