2X-Y=5, -X+3Y=5

OpenStudy (tfht):

i suggest that you get y alone in the first problem or x in the second problem. but i will go with y. so to do that, you subtract 2x from both sides to get -y=-2x+5 then divide both sides by -1 to get y=2x-5

OpenStudy (tfht):

so then you would sub in 2x-5 for y in the second equation to get -x+3(2x-5)=5

OpenStudy (tfht):

then simplify it to -x+6x-15=5. then get x alone to get 5x=20

OpenStudy (tfht):

so x=4. then you sub that in for x in either equation. ill sub it in for the first one so it will look like 2(4)-y=5

OpenStudy (tfht):

then you simplify it to get 8-y=5 and get y alone to get -y=-3 then divide both sides by -1 to get that y=3
