slove 1/x-6+1/x+6=36/(x-6)(x+6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is 1/x-6 supposed to be 1/(x-6)? It makes a pretty big difference.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its supposed to have an extranous solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

extraneous*

@VozMajal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah. That means that one of the answers can be wrong, but could you put parentheses around parts of the equations that are together, like so? \[1/(x-6)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes :) i meant to put them around it . but how do i exactly solve this equation? can yu explain the steps to help me solve this. first i know yu half to cross multiply

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which should give you (x-6)(x+6)/ (x-6) + (x-6)(x+6)/(x+6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

have*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Had to go eat, give me a couple minutes to work it out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure that's the equation? I seem to be hitting a block with those numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Unless the equation is 1/(x-6) + 1/(x+6) = 36/((x+6)(x-6))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in which case, I'll rework it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, I've gotten the answer. How far have you gotten?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's what I drew on my whiteboard, in step by step form, color coded, and the purple denotes the "why" of the step. Hope it makes sense!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let me know if something is wrong or doesn't make sense.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@VozMajal how can the solution be extraneous?
