The slope of a line is -1/3. Find the slope of a line that is perpendicular to this line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the slope is k and the perpendicular slope is m, then by definition, m*k=-1. From then you just substitute to find that the perpendicular slope m=3.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's just the negative reciprocal of the slope -- and that is m=3 :)
