For each sum or product, determine whether the result is a rational number or an irrational number. Then choose the appropriate reason for each.

do you know what a rational number is? just asking, if not, say "no" and i will explain

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't a rational number when a number can be written as a fraction? @satellite73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes exactly

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the first one is rational for sure, because when you add up two fractions you get a fraction, i.e. the sum of two rational numbers is always rational

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i cant actually read the second one is that a plus sign or a division sign?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's a plus sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then since the square root of any number that is not a perfect square is irrational, that one is irrational too, because the sum of a rational number and an irrational number is always irrational

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay, I understand a little bit now @satellite73

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know that the last one is gonna be the last option but i'm not sure if it's rational or irrational and I'm not sure about the 3rd one either,
