OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

@mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

this problem is very similar to the previous problem in that you have to find unit costs. There are 2 different stores. Their unit prices are different. Find the unit price for each store in exactly the same way we used last time: Package cost unit price = -------------- package weight

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

so what exact numbers will I need to divide

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

@mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

"At Jim`s Super Sales Club Store, boxes of breakfast cerel weigh 2 pounds 10 ounces and cost $4.20 each." This translates into $4.20 ------------------------------ 2(16)+10 ounces since 1 lb = 16 oz. Now find the unit price for the other store in the same manner.

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

so $4.20/ 42? @mathmale

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Yes, and do the same thing for the other store's price. I am helping several people at once, so am afraid there will be some delays. Don't be afraid to make mistakes...do what you can and present what you have, and I'll get back to you!

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

is the answer 25 cents ? @mathmale

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

@mathmale

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

First, find the price per ounce for the first cereal. You already know it costs $4.20 for 42 oz. How much is that per ounce?

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

hold on let me work it out @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You already wrote above $4.20/42. Just do that division. What do you get?

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

I got .10 cents for that ! @mathstudent55

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Great. Now you need to the a similar calculation with the other store's price. The other cereal costs $3.75 per 1 lb and 9 oz First, convert 1 lb 9 oz into oz. Then divide $3.75 by the number of oz.

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

3.72 divided by 25 right

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

@mathstudent55

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

*3.75

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

I got .15 cents for that !!

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

would my answer be .5 cents @mathstudent55 or @mathmale or @MathLegend

OpenStudy (mathmale):

RIGHT! Wonderful. There's a 5 cent difference in the price per ounce when the two stores' prices are compared. sorry it took me so long to get back to you.

OpenStudy (jazzyluvsu123):

np good thing I finally got it

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct. Great job @JazzyLuvsU123 & @mathmale
