OpenStudy (marziajackson$):

Find the discount. Regular price is $168 and the discount price is 30%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30% off of 168 means that the item would only cost 50.40 dollars

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to find the DISCOUNT...not the price after the discount. The discount is just 30% of 168...or 0.3 x 168

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly which equals 50.40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes..but you said the item would only cost 50.40. Not true. The item will cost 168 - 50.4 or 117.60

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, the item is at a discount of 50.4 dollars, the discount

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, I see, my error, however the question does ask what the discount is which would be 50.40. my wording was incorrect.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The question is actually stated in a confusing way now that I look at it again. It is bad English to say: "the discount price is 30%"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

30% off? 30% of the original price?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Especially when it is asking for the discount in the first place...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

MarziaJackson$...can you give us the question exactly as it is worded again?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it asks for what the discount is, which would be 168 x .3 which equals 50.4 or the discount, 117.6 would be how much the item costs, not what the discount is per say...
