x2 and x1

OpenStudy (gorv):

let (x1,y1) is (-4,19) and (x2,y2) is (x,14) so slope is given use slope calculation formula

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know what x is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wouldn't it be 14-19 ? since y2-y1?

OpenStudy (gorv):

\[slope=\frac{ y2-y1 }{ x2-x1 }\]

OpenStudy (gorv):

yeah now calculate x2-x1 and divide

OpenStudy (gorv):

as x2=x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know what x2 is :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it has to equal -3 so it could give me a positive 5/3

OpenStudy (gorv):

\[slope=\frac{ 5 }{ 3 }=\frac{ 14-19 }{ x+4 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x1 = -4

OpenStudy (gorv):

x2 =x and we have to find value of x

OpenStudy (gorv):

yeah x2-x1=x-(-4)=x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHHH

OpenStudy (gorv):

now its just cross multiplication can u do it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait im still confused what do I multiply..

OpenStudy (gorv):

we have to find x value so bring x on one side

OpenStudy (gorv):

\[5*(x+4)=3*(14-19)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so multiply everything ?

OpenStudy (gorv):

5x+20=3*14-3*19 5x=42-57-20=-35

OpenStudy (gorv):

x=-35/5=-7

OpenStudy (gorv):

just try to bring x on one side and move everything on other side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wow.. that makes sense.. THANKS SO MUCCH.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -7 would be x?

OpenStudy (gorv):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks :)
