Nixon thought that South Vietnam was strong enough to resist a communist takeover, even if American forces were pulled out.

yeah thats what im saying
ahhh correct @christiansousley
just making sure lol sorry i really get into it..sorrylol
im a big history freak
@christiansousley A big history freak should have a better grasp of the details. "We" did not get our "asses kicked" because substantial US military presence in South Vietnam was long gone by August 1974, when President Ford took office after Nixon's resignation. The US Congress passed the Case-Church Amendment in mid-1973 which specifically prohibited US military action in southeast Asia without prior Congressional approval, thus ending any direct participation by the US military in South Vietnam's defense in August of 1973. President Nixon had already withdrawn the US troops as part of the 1972 peace agreement. Without the support of US troops and airpower, the ARVN was no match for the North Vietnamese when they resumed their invasion in early March 1975, and the last leader of South Vietnam surrendered at the end of April 1975.
Correct you are @whpalmer. VietNam was a military victory for the US. ARVN was promised US support as part of the 1972 agreement. Congress turned it to a defeat by abandoning our commitment to our friends.
