The histogram shows the numbers of people who volunteered for community service and the number of hours they worked. Use the histogram to answer the question. How many volunteers worked more than 10 hours? A. 25 B. 60 C. 75 D. 85

OpenStudy (usman1995):

it's 85 straight u should see the bar after 10 hours as it asks for more than 10 hours so u get 25+50+10 which is equal to 85 and don't forget the medal

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@usman1995: It's sad that your main motivation seems to be getting a medal and that you feel you have to ask for it. Why not concentrate on doing a good job of explaining what needs to be done in this problem solving, and let Sweety2415 give you a medal if she feels you've earned it?

OpenStudy (usman1995):

ok !! will not ask ever again

OpenStudy (usman1995):

u type so slow

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@sweety2415 : We're interested in finding out how many volunteers worked more than 10 hours. That means ignoring the data for 1-5 and 6-10 hours. How many people worked 11-15 hours? 16-20 hours? 21-25 hours? Here's where @usman1995 got his data: the number of people who worked 21-25 hours, according to the graph, was 10. Can you agree with that?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If so, how many people worked 11-15 hours? 16-20 hours? @usman1995: thanks for the kind compliment.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Just add together the number of people who worked 11-15, 16-20 and 21-25 hours.

OpenStudy (usman1995):

so it's 85 right?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Why not let @Sweety1995 answer that? It's HER question, and she's the one who stands to benefit if she learns how to do this herself. this particular conversation should focus on that, and not on whether you, as helper, are right or not.

OpenStudy (mathmale):

@sweety2415 : As before, 10 people worked 21-25 hours. How many worked 16-21 hours? How many worked 11-15 hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

16-21 is 51 and 11-15 is 25

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Close enough. So, you get 51 (I'd call that 50), 25 and 10. Add those together; the total is the answer to this problem. Please do that now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

50+25+10=85

OpenStudy (mathmale):

So, @sweety2415 , which of the four possible answers is closest to your result / equal to your result?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Cool. Have you any questions about the problem solving we did here?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (mathmale):

thanks for your patience and persistence! and thank you for medal, too.
