sqrt x+5 = -3

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\Huge\color{blue}{ \sf \sqrt{x+5}=3 }\) square both sides, \(\Huge\color{blue}{ \sf (\sqrt{x+5})^2=(3)^2 }\) \(\Huge\color{blue}{ \sf x+5=9}\) Can you do the LAST STEP ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

shoot I'm an idiot, it was actually \[\sqrt{x+5}=-3\]. But that would mean it would end upo in the same place right, because -3^2 is still 9, yes?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

YES ! You got it, you would end up with the same thing !

Thank you so much! :)
