how did pearl harbor impact world war 2

OpenStudy (angeleyes108):

The attack on Pearl Harbour affected the outcome of World War II because this now brought in another power house country. The United States were wanting to stay out of oversea affairs but with this sudden attack it gave President Roosevelt no choice but to enter the war. When Pearl Harbor was bombed the United States immediately declared war against Japan. The resources (soldiers, weapons, transporation, food, fuel and just about anything else you can think of) to operate the military were spread a little thin because of the necessity to fight on TWO fronts. Had we not been required to fight in the Pacific AND Europe, either war would have gone much faster. The Japanese leadership wanted to fight a weakened foe, that's why they tried to conquer the Pacific while the rest of the world was fighting elsewhere. The attack on Pearl Harbor brought the United States from the sidelines into the actual conflict. Obviously this pushed the American army against the Japanese, but it also added American troops to the allied conflict in Europe. It would be years, 4 years of course, before the full impact of American involvement would lead to the Allied victory. That's maybe a simplified answer, but it's pretty straightforward. It caused the U.S. to declare war on Japan, and rallied the American people behind the war effort. It led to the ultimate total defeat of Japan. The attack on Pearl Harbour resulted approximately 2,000 American deaths. One day after the attack, the United States declared war on Japan. All six of the Japanese Aircraft Carriers which were involved with the attack were sunk by the Americans. The U.S. immediately declared war on Japan, which led to many deaths. There were multiple sea battles, bombing raids and ultimately it led to the dropping of two bombs, one on Hiroshima and the other on Nagasaki, ending the war. Pearl Harbour did greatly effect the out come of the war. It brought in one of the most powerful nations, the United States. The allies desperatly need the the U.S.' man power and troops. Once American entered the war, they started off slow. But by 1942 the allies were in full swing. Also the Americans thought the attack on Pearl Harbour was out pure hatred. They were thriving to avenge Pearl Harbour
