Why might some kinds of living things undergo sexual reproduction at times when conditions in their environment become less favorable?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for many living things on earth sexual reproduction isn't a very important process in order for an individual to survive (which is considered a number one priority). But however, it is crucial that they do it for the sake of the species - so that they will not die out and extinct. And since most of the multicellular organisms undergo some sort of Sexual reproduction this guarantees that their offspring will not all look the same due to the fact that they get half of their genetic information from 2 different parents. For the Genetic Variation in the world we live in - which is important :) If human (assuming it is possible) performs asexual production instead of sexual reproduction I would look like you and you would look like me and the poster above me would also look like the poster above him! confusing~ (~_~) If I helped can you please give me a MEDAL! >_< =)

anyone is welcome to add more!

For most living things, if it is time to reproduce, they will reproduce. An environment that is unfavorable might even be more of a stimulus, if you think about it - if it thinks that it is unlikely to survive till the next mating season, wouldn't it be better to try to reproduce anyway?
