You are a climatologist who has been given the task of finding out how much glaciers and ice caps have receded over the past 50 years. You have at your disposal satellite image data from this entire time period. How could you gather data (measurements) from the satellite images and what format would be a good way to present the data you have gathered?

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@taylorvengam Hai Sweet Friend, WeLcoMe to OpeN stuDy.. !! Well select a minimum of 10 glaciers( for minimum statistical significance to have "statistical confidence" that your sample is in fact representative of the population of glaciers) **NOTE: The photo/image must be taken at the same time of year for each of the 50 years and must be the same scale year to year. "Snow" is not the same as glacial ice. Snowfall is an indirect factor of the potential for glacial ice to form but a glacier is not snow. I say this so you are careful to only measure the glacial ice and not just the surface covered in snow which will also give a high white albedo( reflecting index). The Greenland icecap is likely consistently measurable year to year but the Arctic's polar cap is widely variable, owing to sea ice. Distinguishing the difference between true ice sheet and the sea ice: a subtle but important distinction may be difficult.
