Does it take anyone else several views of each video to understand what is going on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you never studied programming before, yes, that might happen and it is natural. In this case i recommend reading a good book on the subject before taking online lessons, that way you won't be clueless and watching these lessons will become an ease.

You're learning topics that are outside of the type of things you've studied or learned before, and there are a LOT of key words and technical terms. It also all makes sense and seems logical while the prof is explaining it, but the context supporting the logic slips away when you're trying to understand after the fact. Don't stress it too much. Before re-watching one you've already seen, take a look and see if there are any recitation videos for that lesson. Sometimes those can be more helpful because they can present another view of the same information that may click better with you. There's nothing at all wrong with going back and watching again, it's the same thing as going back and reading your notes, except minus the notes :)

I find it helpful to watch the videos with others, stop and discuss frequently. I am running a Mentored Study Group for teenagers using this course and this works really well for us.

Cool, that's a really good idea, then you get the benefits of being able to combine knowledge also which should help everyone.

I download the vids to my tablet and watch them during my lunch and breaks at work. sometimes I watch them over and over again, then after work when I get home I spend time at the pc writing code, practicing from the handouts till I understand the concept from the video. and yeah. heck yeah, the recitation vids are quite helpful even though I watch the lectures several times. medicaly it is described as burning new synaptic pathways. heheh. once burnt in they get easier to re impulse ;) so keep trying, hang in there. it gets easier as you go along. Hence is why its called "learning"

I personally find the lectures pretty easy, but the problem sets often crushingly difficult. I have no prior programming experience, but supposedly that's the audience for this introductory class.
