Can someone help with matrices/explain how they work??

Suppose you have two equations, like these: 2x -3x = 6 -3x +y = 7 In a way, you don't really need the x's and y's, you just need the numbers. So you can represent the left side of this set of equations by the matrix : 2 -3 -3 1 If you have two matrices to add you can just add the _corresponding_ elements of them together. This means add the elements in the upper left corner together to get the element in the upper left corner of the result, right down to the element in the lower right corner. See the attached for an example.
