which expression is equivalent to the one shown below? (3^2)^4 a.3^6 b.3^8 c.9^6 d.9^8

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

multiply the powers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 3^2 is 9. So you'll have 9^4. Multiply those powers out, and see which ones match, and you'll have your answer. :) I don't know the powers of 9 off the top of my head xP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so three to the 8th, I thought so! just wanted to clarify, thank you

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

np

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup! You're welcome :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait... 9^4 isn't one of the answers! 9^8 maybe? or was it 3^8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, 9^4 is your original expression. The one in the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What's 9^4? Then multiply out the other powers, and see which one matches the value of 9^4. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 9 to the 4th power! wait...yeah I think it is 9 to the 4th. the original equation is (3 squared) to the fourth. so yeah, 9 to the fourth would be equivalent then. thanks :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No prob :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no....no! what am I saying, 9 to the 4th is not one of the answers! this is starting to make me mad! (3squared) to the fourth power would be equivalent to ..yeah I don't even know
