Did Dwight Eisenhower (who followed Truman as president) concur with his predecessor in his opinion of the Soviet threat?

The short answer is that Eisenhower did take a hardline stance against communism and generally followed Truman's approach in terms of containment. On the other hand, his administration also promoted "massive retaliation" as a response to any threats posed by the Soviet Union which was essentially to overwhelm the enemy with everything in their arsenal. Kennedy would later back off from this, but Eisenhower felt that the idea of massively retaliating against your enemy could act as an effective deterrent. At the same time, he wasn't completely against the idea of dialogue with the Soviets, either, especially after Stalin's death and Khruschev's "thaw".
