Which statement accurately describes Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev's reaction to the Bay of Pigs invasion? A. He wanted to avoid confrontation and asked to meet with Kennedy to work out their differences. B. He believed that Kennedy was a weak president and decided to place Soviet missiles in Cuba. C. He was concerned that Castro might invade Florida and removed Soviet advisors from Cuba. D. He feared that Castro might assassinate Kennedy and ordered Soviet troops to arrest him.
I'd go with (B). The failure of the invasion just fed Khruschev's propaganda efforts in embarrassing the US. The other answers don't make a lot of sense. He certainly wasn't shy about talking face-to-face with Kennedy or concerned about Castro invading Florida. He also wasn't afraid that Castro might assassinate Kennedy and sought to arrest him, either. Instead, he saw Cuba and Castro as a trump card in his efforts to spread Soviet influence in the West.
