Solve the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2 \sqrt{x} +8 = -2\]

OpenStudy (praxer):

take 8 to the Right side and square both sides. I think you will get the desired answer.. :)

OpenStudy (praxer):

2 root x = -2-8 => 2 root x = -10 =>root x = -5 squaring both sides. => x = 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@praxer but it would be -25 since it's a negative answer

OpenStudy (praxer):

How can it be -25 if it is -25 then root of -25 you will get a complex number.

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Just remember @jadeedwardson when you take the square root of a number....it becomes a +/- situation \[\large \sqrt{25} = \pm 5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im confused because my options are -25 9 100 no real solution

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

"No real solution" it is :)

OpenStudy (praxer):

Yes, it is no real solution.. :)

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Because the square root of a negative number...is indeed an imaginary number... We cannot take the square root of a number and end up with a negative...
