What is the isolationism policy of the U.S. after ww1?
That the US should focus only on itself and not worry about events elsewhere. After the horrors of WW1, a lot of people argued against getting involved in another foreign war. It's one of the reasons why the US delayed entry into WW2 as Germany rolled over Western Europe.
how did the us go about focusing on itself? are there certain things the us did to not get involved?
Mostly it was military. People felt that the US should focus on its own problems, especially after the Great Depression hit, and not get involved in conflicts elsewhere. Even when Japan invaded Chinese Manchuria, all the US could really do was wag their finger and start embargoes. When the fighting started in Europe as Nazi Germany began fighting France and Britain, Roosevelt's hands were tied because the isolationist movement didn't want to get involved in what they saw as "Europe's problems". All he could do was barely pass Lend Lease to provide indirect aid to Britain in the form of supplies and outdated surplus. After Pearl Harbor, however, everyone kind of stopped listening to the isolationists.
thank you so much this really helped :)
