Power consumed by a resistor is \[P = \frac{ V ^{2} }{ R }\] so the resistor with the least resistance will draw less power. That would be R2. As a side note, tagging people in your questions as well as copying the question to them in a private message is obnoxious, don't do it. The questions is quite clearly there in the 'open questions' tab, if someone can answer it they will.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not going to argue semantics. My point is tagging and messaging the same person over the same thing is a pain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I wrote least in my answer when I meant to say most. The resistor with the least resistance will draw the most power. That is R2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'll see what I can do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[R_1 = R_2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cool! I was thinking of answering that too but just thought it was maybe too obvious

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you remember \[V = IR\] and \[P = I ^{2}R\]it should make things easier.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh cool :) thanks :) ok so if I just had that same drawing but didn't know what the values of the Isubscore 1 and Isubscore 2 meant what could I say about the I? would I still say that I subscore 2 = I subscore1?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but only given that the two R values are the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what if I'm just given R1 on one side and R2 just that like the last drawing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then \[I_1 = \frac{ V }{ R_1 }\] and \[I_2 = \frac{ V }{ R_2 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so from these options : you can't tell from info given I2>I1 I2 = I1 I2 < I1 I would choose that I can't tell from info given

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would I choose the option of not enough info given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@walpurgishacked

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I'm going to go with that option

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are u there @walpurgishacked ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mm, you can't tell from the information given, if there are no values.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok oh just two much shorter questions I forgot to do last week then I'm complete 1. What is a resistor? component that supplies voltage? component with fixed resistance? or electric device for variable resistance? I think it's either B or C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's been bugging me because I know in some cases its fixed and others its varied isnt it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's a component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. They can have either fixed or variable resistances, depending on the type, (thermistors, for example, have resistance that varies depending on its temperature) but given the nature of your other questions I am inclined to say B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah that was my first choice because I read something about that in my notes but I also heard it could be varied in special cases but thanks for helping to clear that up always good to have 2nd opinion :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mm, understandable. Hope I was of help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep ok last question : Which of the following is true about circuit shown?|dw:1398226695168:dw|
