How to write a speech about " the biggest challenges faced by young adults today".

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Maybe one of the biggest challenges is writing speeches!

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Are you supposed to research and quantify the challenges or decide based on your observations?

You Could Do your paper on pregnancy . or unemployment or smoking

OpenStudy (wwhitlock):

Make a list of all the things that you think are a challenge to young adults. Get a least 10 on paper. Force yourself to complete the list if you have to. Write down silly things if you need to. Let that sit. Watch a cartoon or something. Just don't think about it for 30 minutes or so. Go back to the list. Do any topics fit together, combine them. Start ranking them by how much you know about each topic. Or by how much you wouldn't mind finding out more about. Cut the list down to 3 or 4. Take a little break. Come back to your list. Do you still like the ranking? Make changes if you want. Now do a brain dump on topic #1. Write everything you know about the topic. Don't worry about spelling or fact checking or anything like that. Just get every thing about that topic out of your brain and on paper.(or computer screen) Set that aside and watch another cartoon. Come back and do a brain dump for #2. Take a break and do #3. Let that sit over night if you can. Whatever your schedule permits. But that's a good day's start. When you get back to it look each list over. Combine things if you want, but don't spend to much time. Then decide if #1 is still the one you know most about. Change the order if you want. Now take topic one and start finding out more about it. Find articles or pictures or whatever. You want to fact check yourself. Make sure that you know what your talking about. Add interesting stuff you find. Make sure you write down where information comes from. Use good sources. Now look at all you have for that topic. Could you write a whole speech from that information. What if you add just a little bit more information? You may want to change your topic to "The biggest challenge facing young adults today." If you think you have enough, start organizing it into a speech. Skip down to the writing part of this if you think you're ready. If you don't think it will be long enough, or you've got other things you feel need to be said, look at your #2 and #3 topics. If #2 is still your #2. Do the whole reading and fact checking, adding interesting stuff thing with that topic. Will the speech meet the your needs with 2 topics? Start the writing if so. Otherwise do the reading thing with #3. Writing the Speech You probably ran into a funny story, or startling fact while reading. Use that as a hook to get intrest. Then just tell the story. Tell what you found in a logical way. Make sure your paragraphs work. Put all the info about an idea together then go to the next. Just put the information in as briefly as you can. Don't sany the same thing twice. Keep going until topic 1 is all in there. Ask yourself again. Can I stop now? If so go to the call to action. If you think you need more, organize and write #2 and #3. If you decide to talk about more than one of your topics, consider reversing order. Would the speech work better if you started with #2 and finished with #1. You get to make that decision. Call to action Don't just summerize and conclude. Make a call to action. What do you want your listeners to do about all that you've talked about. Should they join an organization? Check out a website or comfort a friend who has the challenge you talked about. Or maybe they should do a couple of things. They've already heard you give some facts, put some emotion and humanness into it. Like: I've shown you the terrible problem we have with chunky peanut butter. Now ask yourself "what can I do to help solve this problem?" Then do the call to action. Now, Go and Write!
