g(x) =log(x-50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you need to solve?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need to scribe the transformations on the following graph of f (x)  log( x) . State the placement of the vertical asymptote and x-intercept after the transformation. For example, vertical shift up 2 or reflected about the x-axis are descriptions.

OpenStudy (valpey):

When you subtract 50 from x in the log function it is as if you are translating the whole curve along the x axis to the right by 50 units.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I apologize the formula is actually g(x)=log (x-5)

OpenStudy (valpey):

Okay, replace 50 with 5 in my previous comment. The vertical asymptote of the normal log function (log(x)) occurs at x=0 because log(0) is not defined. Similarly, log(5-5) is not defined.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so a description of the transformation would be horizontal shift and 5 units to the ritht?
