Surface area of pyramid and point perspective questions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Two Geometry questions.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

what are the dimensions of the triangles that make up the sloping faces of the pyramid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

h: 16 b: 10

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

area of that triangle = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If those are right, then the area for all the triangles are 320?

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

6 of them at 1/2 * 10 * 16 each

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, I just though of a square pyramid. So, 480 for all the triangles.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

yes. now how will you find the area of the base?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{ 3\sqrt{3} }{ 2 }a ^{2}\]=259.81

OpenStudy (anonymous):

259.81+480=739.81=780

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*740

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know about #2.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

okay, that works. I broke it down into 6 triangles with base 10 and height \(5\sqrt{3}\) so area \( = 150\sqrt{3}\) yes, 740 is correct

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

how many vanishing points do you see? I think that is one-point perspective, but I'm not wagering any large sums on it :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't know what vanishing points are, but I would probably take your word on it.

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

some reading material (with pictures) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One-point_perspective#One-point_perspective

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, then it does seem to be one-point perspective.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for all the help again. :)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

You bet. Are you up late, or early? :-)

OpenStudy (whpalmer4):

I'm up late (in California), and I think I'm going to call it a night.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Usually pretty late. I am usually up 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 A.M. in SC

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And, goodnight.
