How far will a brick starting from rest fall freely in 10.0s?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Initial velocity, u, is =0, falling freely means it is accelerating due to gravity, and g= 9.81 and 10 seconds is the time. To calculate distance s, we say\[s=ut +\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }g t ^{2}\] \[s=(0)(10)+ (\frac{ 1 }{ 2 })(9.81)(10)^{2}\] therefore s=490.5 m
