trace the flow of sperm through the reproductive tract
Firslty, not all the spernms have the same fate. More than fifty per cent just "leak out" of the vagina after the act. Then on, the number of sperms proceeding up the tract keeps on falling exponentially. Sample this: of approximately 300 million sperms that are ejaculated in one act, only around ten to hundred actually compete for fertilization. So, beyond vagina, it's cervix, uterine cavity, the fallopian (oviduct) tube, and it's the isthmus of the fallopian tube (narrow portion of the fallopian tube closer to its termination laterally) where the fertilization usually occurs. Once the zygote is formed it travels towards the uterine cavity--path opposite to the one through which the sperms entered, and the zygote may then implant itself in the endometrium--inner lining of the uterus, in which case the pregnancy may reach completion. Of course, some sperms may leak out of the fimbria located at the lateral end of the fallopian tube, which is OPEN, and opens into the pouch of Douglas (as I'd answered in your other question).
Sorry about the last sentence I meant that for someone else! :)
