Can someone please explain what a metallic bond is and why it allows metals to be good conductors in both the solid and molten (melted) states, while ionic compounds are good conductors only in the molten or aqueous states but not as solids? Thank You so much!!!

Instead of me re-writing what has already been written, you can read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metallic_bonding Ionic compounds http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrolyte
