EXPLAIN how to get this answer please? Given the equation y = 5x - 1, what are the intercepts? x-intercept = -1 and y-intercept = x-intercept = 1 and y-intercept = - x-intercept = and y-intercept = -1 x-intercept = - and y-intercept = 1

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The intercepts are the points where the line crosses the axes. At the y-axis, every point has an x-coordinate of 0, so to find the y-intercept, let x = 0 and solve for y. At the x-axis, every point has a y-coordinate of 0, so to find the x-intercept, let y = 0 and solve for x.

Here's a figure that helps show what I wrote above. This is NOT a graph of your line, so don't conclude anything, as far as values are concerned, from it. |dw:1398442015612:dw|
