Just like numbers have additive inverses, matrices can have them also. For example, suppose you're given a number 5. To find its additive inverse is simple... it's -5! By definition, if a is a number, -a is its additive inverse, because a + (-a) = 0. It's called an inverse because you're undoing the addition. It's like you never even added anything in the first place. So, this is the same for matrices. You're given a matrix D. It's additive inverse is simply -D. D + (-D) = 0. Looks like it's going to be the first choice.
