Crisis in Ukraine Project
Who Makes and Implements Foreign Policy? The poster makes clear who creates and implements (carries out) foreign policy in the group’s assigned country. This includes any important people, departments and/or agencies that will be important to your foreign policy strategy. Key policy figures rubric: ______ Section identifies all key people, departments and agencies responsible for foreign policy in the country ______ Section explains the foreign policy responsibilities of each person, department and/or agency identified Foreign Policy Plan Write a foreign policy plan for Ukraine with respect to the Ukraine crisis. How should Ukraine handle the situation to best meet its goals and objectives? Make sure that your plan clearly outlines the roles of any key figures or government departments involved. For example, if you recommend military action, who in your country’s government would direct such action? You should also explain why your plan should work, including any examples from history (especially the Cold War) that support your argument. Foreign policy plan rubric: ______ Plan clearly states recommended foreign policy ______ Plan reflects country’s Ukraine's goals and objectives with respect to the Ukraine crisis ______ Plan identifies key figures, departments and agencies needed to implement policy ______ Plan explains why recommended policy should work I just need help on doing this, you don't have to do all this
I'd probably start with the State Department since they handle all of the diplomatic functions or the US throughout the world. They're the face of the United States to the countries that they send their ambassadors to: http://www.state.gov/ ...but as you probably already know, they can't just do things on their own without prior approval or assistance from the President all the way on down to officials at other departments such as Treasury depending on what actions are taken. Coming up with a foreign policy plan is a bit trickier, but there's a lot of information already out there on what's going on. Right now, they're hitting Russia with a variety of sanctions to apply economic pressure on the country, so the next questions to ask could be who has the authority to make those? For example, defense materials were placed under restrictions against Russia: http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2014/04/225241.htm
I'm doing a project on Ukraine. Not the United States. I'm suppose to include Ukrainians involved not Americans, sorry
Well, then, just replace the State Department with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Ukraine (which essentially does the same thing): http://mfa.gov.ua/en Unfortunately, their website isn't as informative as the State Department's, but at least you can find out who is in charge along with official press releases from their government. They also have a link to their own resources on the Ukrainian Crisis: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine's Crisis Page: http://uacrisis.org/
Umm Excuse me do you mind if you close this?
Glad you left this open. @Captain_Page_Turner is right, as usual, but you might want to add some insight to your research. A problem in Ukraine is the current civil unrest. It's not quite a civil war yet. So you have the official line, the one on the websites. But then you have the question of loyalty of the troops. Ukrainian military officers from Crimea threw in with the Russians before they annexed Crimea. Eastern Ukrainians favor Russia. They liked the government before the current one. How many of the men and women who are supposed to implement the policy are not all the loyal to the current government. We don't know the answer. But it changes the reality of what happens versus what is supposed to happen.
