(x-1)^2+(y+4)^2=64

find the center and radius of the circle

OpenStudy (marigirl):

lets manipulate the equation a little and try and get it into this form (x-a)^2 + (y-b^)2 = r^2 we already have (x-1)^2+(y+4)^2=64 can u change 64 into r^2?

OpenStudy (marigirl):

(x-a)^2 + (y-b)^2 = r^2 is the standard form for a circle where (a,b) is the centre of the circle and r is the radius. note in your case its (x-a)^2+(y+b)^2=r^2 and your centre would be (a, -b)

i don't get it
